Weekend Retreats

The primary purpose of this phase is to execute the first (but modified) National Veterans Wellness & Healing Center - Flint Hills Retreats in order to demonstrate the healing power of this retreat to the Kansas community. During this phase, key retreat leadership holds weekly working groups to plan events, acquire staff, reserve facilities, and generate funds. The initial retreat, set for 27-30 October 2011, will host 10 Veteran Couples (Veteran and spouse/partner only) over a 3-day period at the Rock Springs 4-H Center near Junction City, KS. Staffing is 100% volunteer. The agenda of the initial retreat provides participants with nearly 6 hours of group therapy, 3 hours of break-out discussions, 2 hours of Yoga, a drama therapy performance, and a Native American Healing Ceremony.

5-Day Retreats

The primary purpose of this phase is to expand the program to execute an extensive pilot program for the retreat. The National Veterans Wellness & Healing Center - Flint Hills Retreats Pilot Program consists of 10 week-long retreats executed on a bi-monthly basis at the Rock Springs 4-H Center near Junction City, KS. Each session will treat approximately 10 Veteran Couples. During the pilot retreats, Veteran Couples are exposed to 15 hours of group therapy, 5 hours of break-out sessions, 5 hours of yoga, 5 hours of Eastern Medicinal Modalities (Acupuncture, Reike, Massage), 5 hours of Equine-Assisted Therapy, 5 hours of individual couples counseling, a drama therapy performance, and Native American Healing ceremonies. In addition, the 5-day Retreats will include family-based programming that will include activities for children and youth, as well as family therapy.
